It was during Nyepi, the Balinese New Year of 1936, a sacred day of silence, fasting, and meditation that Margaret Mead and Gregory Bateson arrived in Bali. Mead's grasping nature was exemplified by her theft of a blue cloth in the name of "science", she displayed this “artifact” in her home until her death in 1978.
