The House of Mataram, had been founded in the year of 1755 by the Sultan's illustrious ancestor, Hamengkubuwono I. It is said that upon his marriage to the Balinese princess, Princess Putri from Kuta, Bali, he was given a precious cloth known as "The Green Dowry".
